    Classes & Support Groups

    At Sutter Lakeside Hospital, we look to the community we serve to identify and meet local health care needs. Providing free health information, classes and events is just one of the ways we can give back to our community. We have developed several programs to inform and educate Lake County residents about a number of health concerns.

    Here are a few of our classes and support groups:

    Bariatric Support Group

    Free Community Support Group

    This support group allows you to openly talk about your experiences with bariatric surgery. This is the perfect place to ask questions regarding weight loss surgery, gain support after surgery, and keep up to date about new doctors and new information. Come and meet others who have gone through the surgery, ask questions and get the support you need.

    Date: 3rd Thursday of the month

    Better Breathers Club

    Free Community Support Group

    We offer patient-centered, community-based educational opportunities and support to persons with chronic lung disease such as COPD (Emphysema or Chronic Bronchitis), asthma, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), lung cancer and other chronic lung diseases. Our goal is to improve quality of life and functional status by providing disease specific education and emotional support.

    Date: 2nd Tuesday of the month

    Diabetes Education, Type 1

    Free Community Support Group

    Diabetes and educational support for children and adults suffering from Type 1 diabetes. Come to hear guest speakers, ask questions and to get answers.

    Date: first Saturday of each month
    Time: 10am -12pm

    Diabetes Education, Type 2

    Free Community Support Group

    The diabetes education class is for anyone who has recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or anyone who presently suffers from this disease and has had no education. This is a good refresher course for those suffering from T2 diabetes and needing support. Gestational Diabetes (during pregnancy) education is also available with one on one support. *Must have referral from doctor to participate in this program*

    Dates: Meets on Wednesdays (set up with instructor)
    Times: Set up with instructor (first meeting 2 hours, 2nd and 3rd meetings, one hour)

    Infant CPR Classes

    SLH Family Birth Center

    Free to all parents who deliver at Sutter Lakeside. All other community members are welcome for a fee of $25.00 per couple. Learn strategies and help with breathing emergencies, infant poisoning, infant choking, infant CPR, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

    Child Birth Preparation Series

    SLH Family Birth Center

    This series presents important information about pregnancy, preparation for labor and birth, the postpartum period, and newborn care. There is oral presentation and discussion, videos and practice with various coping and comfort techniques for pregnancy and labor. All classes are taught by staff members certified in childbirth education. Classes in Spanish available upon request.**

    Dates: May 7-28; July 9-30; September 3-24; November 5-24.
    Times: All classes meet Thursday evenings, 5:30-7:30 pm.
    Cost: This is a free class for couples delivering at SLH.

    Breastfeeding Support and Education

    SLH Family Birth Center

    This is a free class offered by appointment only with one of our Certified Lactation Consultants. Topics include basic anatomy, getting started, positioning and latch, tips, tricks, and going back to work. Classes in Spanish available upon request

    Stress Reduction and Relaxation Clinic

    Wellness Center Class

    Sutter Lakeside Hospital invites you to move towards greater balance and control in your life by participating in the Stress Reduction and Relaxation Clinic. During this eight-week intensive program, participants will learn how to become stress responsive and let go of reactive habits when faced with life stressors. Among those benefitting from these clinics are those suffering from depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and work stress.
